FAQ

1. What is babycents?

babycents is a no-nonsense, cut-the-crap guide to baby gear, baby stuff and just babies and kid stuff in general. Our goal is to help you save money, buy less junk you don't really need, and thus, save the world from mountains of crap!

2. How will you save me money?

When most people figure out they are going to have a kid, they gear up. They create baby registries of stuff they "need" and start the Great Accumulation that will continue for many years to come.

We are here to break that cycle.

Some stuff (car seats, etc) is unavoidable, but a lot of stuff you just don't need, can do without, or can get secondhand. If you start with that attitude, you'll definitely save money.

A new little person that is constantly changing WILL need many things. And you will have to buy or otherwise acquire those things. We are here to help you to figure out what you really need for your specific situation, help you buy wisely by figuring out what you really need, and also make sure you save money when you do choose to buy.

3. Can't you just tell me whichever is the best crib/stroller/bottle bag out there is and make my life easier?

Well.... the thing is there isn't a one size fits all best anything out there, there's only "best for you" and anyone who tells you otherwise is actually just telling you that because they liked whatever they happened to use and recommend it. Like most stuff in life.

Most people don't have the experience of having used 3, 4 or 5 versions of the same thing. Because, why? Which is why the best thing you can do is find someone with a similar situation / setup and take their guidance. Hopefully you can find that person on babycents.

3. How can I use babycents?

Start by browsing our baby gear product guides to get a flavor for our approach. We all know that you are still going to do lots of research, so do that - but also create an account so that you can start lists of products you're thinking about, discover or recommend, and follow other people's lists to get ideas of what's good.
